Building Hope one paw at a time

The SPCA provides shelter for unwanted, abandoned, abused and stray animals within the city as well as the County of Grande Prairie.  We have designed the new shelter to be a regional Animal Facility that will be accessible to and assist other communities in the North West region of the province.

To date 60% of the Grande Prairie & District SPCA facility has been built with donations from this community.  We continue to fundraise to assist our current project totalling $996,800 (not including GST).

Over 2000 animals are admitted to the GPSPCA each year.  The addition of 53 permanent dog kennels is the largest and most costly part of construction but the most needed.  The population growth in Grande Prairie & surrounding area continues to bring in an abundance of animals.  We work hard at returning lost animals to their owners and giving a warm place for stray and unwanted animals to stay until they can be adopted into a new home.  We provide a very vital service to our community as these animals left to the elements would die of starvation or disease.  Given enough time there is a home for every animal and an animal for every home.

We are currently under-construction, building phase 3 of the shelter.   We are full to capacity and the animals in our facility deserve the best care we can give them for the duration of their stay.  This phase of construction will accommodate 53 permanent dog kennels for our adoptable animals.  It will also make room for a Cat Play room as well as space for the many Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Gerbils ect. that arrive at our door in need of care.

There continues to be a huge need to educate and empower our community to care for and respect animals.  Our progressive education and community programs reach out to the school children with our Bite free presentations, Volunteer safety orientations, Children’s Birthday Parties & facility tours.  We are in desperate need of more space for these programs to grow.

The Grande Prairie & District SPCA is moving forward with construction of our facility, but we are still in need of financial assistance to pay for the new addition and to expand our services and programs to their full capacity.  We ask for your support to ensure that the Grande Prairie & District SPCA can meet construction costs and move forward with new projects to meet the needs of our growing community.
